The Old Testament at a glance
A study through all the Old Testament books, divided into major sections.
A Study through all the Old Testament books of the bible, divided into major sections.
The Old Testament is divided into five main sections, recording God’s interaction with man, with the plan of redemption woven through it. This was followed by a 400 year period, called the “Intertestimental period” before Jesus, the Messiah, came on the scene. Here we present an overview of the various books of the Old Testament along with an overview of the Intertestamental period.

The Pentatuch
(5 books)
The Pentatuch is the core of the Bible exploring where it all began between God and man and Gods interaction with man. It is comprised of the first 5 books, also called the books of Moses or the Jewish Torah.
The History book tell the history of God’s interaction with His people, the children of Israel from their conquest of the land of Canaan (the promised land) to the time of their exile for their rejection of God’s ways.
The Major prophets are called that because the books are longer. These are all written in times of crisis and are used to remind us of our relationship with God.
The intertestamental Period was 400 years long. During this time the people of Israel (God’s chosen people) did not hear from God. However, many important things happened with God’s people which set the stage for Jesus coming to earth and His live, death and resurrection so we can have new life through Him.
