SW College – Preview Lessons

Before we can enroll you in our college you need to fill out these five (5) Preview lessons.

“Preview” Bible studies are lessons taken from our college courses. They are designed to give you a taste of what our college courses are like. They ARE NOT worth any college credit.

They are also designed to reveal whether you are able to handle the courses we offer, and whether you read & follow directions well enough to successfully complete our course work.

Apply by Mail or E-Mail:
After you finish the five “Previews”, have submitted them to us, and get approval to proceed, you will be sent a College Application.

Download, print out the five lessons along with the cover letter, fill them out and mail them to:

Preview Lessons

The assignments given in this non-college-credit study are a preview of work that is required in some of the college courses offered by this college. All five (5) lessons MUST BE completed before you will be considered for admission into our program.

Preview Bible Study Lesson 1

Using the book of Philippians – chapter 1, perform the following tasks:

1. List all the verses in chapter 1 where Jesus Christ is mentioned. He may be mentioned as “Christ”, “Jesus Christ”, “Christ Jesus”, “Lord Jesus Christ”, etc. (list the verses down the left side of the text box.)

2. Ask yourself, "What is said about Christ in all these verses?" Next to each verse describe briefly what is said about Christ or how he is described.

3. Read through chapter 1 again. Write down every verse that contains the pronoun “I”. The “I” refers to the author – Paul. (List the verses down the left side of the text box)

4. How does Paul describe himself in all these verses? Next to each verse write how Paul describes himself.

Using the book of Philippians – chapter 1-4, perform the following tasks:

1. In all the chapters (1-4), look for the word “rejoice” or “joy”.(list the verses down the left side of the text box.)

2. Then, write what each verse says Paul was joyful about. If you cannot tell, then write what is written with/near the word. In other words, what is causing or motivating this joy?

3. In chapter 2:5-8, describe how Christ humbled himself. List each way in which Christ demonstrated humility.
4. Down the left side of the text box, list all the verses in chapter 2 where the word “God” is mentioned (not Jesus Christ). This would be describing God the Father. How is He described in each verse listed?

Using the book of Philippians perform the following tasks:

1. 1. In chapter 3, list all the verses where Paul, the author, talks about himself. Find words other than “I”; Paul used “me”, “my”, etc. (list the verses down the left side of the text box.)

2. Then, next to each verse write the detail about Paul that it mentioned.

3. In chapters 3 & 4, list all the verses where you find the word “let”. Usually, “let” introduces a command or desire from Paul to the people he is writing to. (Write the list of verses down the left side of the text box.)

4. Next to each verse, write the desire or command that follows the “let”.

Using the book of Philippians perform the following tasks:

1. Read Philippians 1:1-8 in more than one version of the Bible if at all possible. Read it seven times.

2. Now, in your own words, write this same passage (Philippians 1:1-8). Read from the beginning of the sentence to a period. Get the subject in your mind. Then, write that same message with your words.

Read Philippians 1:9-10 in more than one version. Read it seven times.
4. Now, write down the meaning (interpretation) of these two verses as you understand them as they fit into the meaning of the passage.

Then, write down how these two verses apply to your personal life. Are these verses true of your life, or do you need some improvement in your spiritual walk? Be honest!

Using the book of Philippians perform the following tasks:

1. Read chapter 1 and determine where Paul is when he is writing this letter.
2. Find all the verses that mention Timothy. How is Timothy described in this letter? to your personal life. Are these verses true of your life, or do you need some improvement in your spiritual walk? Be honest!
Find all the verses that mention Epaphroditus. How is he described in this letter?
List all the other people (& the verses) who are mentioned in this letter down the left side of the text box. Then, write any detail that is mentioned about each person.
